Tafadzwa Mugwadi Biography | Age | Education | Political Career

This is the biography of Tafadzwa Mugwadi a Zimbabwean politician and member of Zanu-PF.  Mugwadi is a former Zanu PF Director of Information and Publicity. He is also a former leader of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU), a political scientist, and a conflict mediation consultant.

Age

Tafadzwa Mugwadi was born on December 12.

Education

Mugwadi holds a Master of Science degree in International Relations and a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Political Science from the University of Zimbabwe. In September 2024, he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Honours degree from the same institution.

Career

In 2012, as the outgoing president of ZINASU, Mugwadi voiced his concerns over the lack of funding for tertiary education in Zimbabwe, calling it “retrogressive and embarrassing.” He criticized government officials for their luxurious lifestyles while failing to prioritize education funding, stating that it was unacceptable for a nation that prides itself on its educational achievements to neglect its students.

Mugwadi later worked for Zimpapers, initially managing their social media unit before being moved to a department called the Knowledge Centre. Following the reshuffling of journalists associated with Deputy Chief Secretary to the President, George Charamba, Mugwadi publicly criticized Acting Editor Tichaona Zindoga for his decisions regarding the reassignment of reporters, labeling him a “school deserter.”

Mugwadi responded to his reassignment from Social Media Manager to the Knowledge Centre, addressing critics on social media and dismissing claims that he was loyal to Charamba, attributing the decision to jealousy.

Political Career

Mugwadi made headlines when he left the MDC-T, then led by the late Morgan Tsvangirai, during his tenure as a student leader. He joined Zanu PF, accusing the opposition of being ideologically lacking. As the leader of ZINASU, Mugwadi had previously rallied student support for the MDC-T but later shifted his allegiance to Zanu PF, citing the party’s commitment to the interests of Zimbabweans. He also held the position of secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Youth Action Group.

In August 2023. Mugwadi was voted member of parliament for Buhera West constituency.
