Professional Career
Prior to becoming Winky D’s manager full-time, Jonathan Banda worked in the civil service. He quit his job as director of disability affairs in the Ministry of Health and Child Care in 2019 to become Winky D’s manager full-time.
He quit his post amid reports of a conflict of interest between his music management role and the ministry’s work.
Arrest
In February 2016, Jonathan Banda and Winky D were arrested for breaching their contract with United Kingdom-based promoter, Luther Pazvakavambwa.
The breach was due to Winky D’s failure to appear at the 2015 UK Summer Fiesta tour as agreed upon in the contract.
As per the contract, Winky D was obligated to reimburse the promoter £16,365 or arrange for another performance for Digital One Promotions. After failing to reach a consensus, a local representative of Digital One Promotions had no option but to report the case to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) who arrested the duo.
The representative of Digutal One Promotions said Jonathan Banda claimed that Winky D was not given enough to perform at the 2015 UK Summer Fiesta tour.
