Initially, Bako began his career as a gold buyer. Over time, he successfully established multiple businesses, including Prolific Boreholes, Bako Blue Mining Company, and Blackinx Investments, which specialize in mining and borehole drilling.
After completing his A Levels in 2002, Bako aimed to pursue higher education and secure a well-paying job to improve his family’s financial situation. However, due to the economic challenges in Zimbabwe at that time, he found himself working as a second-hand cell phone dealer in Harare.
Despite these setbacks, Bako’s entrepreneurial spirit persisted. During school holidays, he would visit his rural home in Zhombe, where he assisted his late grandmother with alluvial gold panning. This experience sparked his interest in gold mining. He eventually registered with Fidelity to become a gold buyer in his rural area, buying and selling gold, registering mining claims, and supporting small-scale miners. In 2013, he opened his own milling centre and began exploring other minerals.
Bako’s journey to business success was not easy; it required significant effort and dedication. He gained valuable experience by working at a friend’s borehole drilling company in South Africa for three months. After completing his practical training, he founded Prolific Boreholes. Notable achievements include drilling the Sentosa borehole, which serves approximately 90% of the suburb’s population, and drilling boreholes for the former First Lady Grace Mugabe’s Children’s Home in Mazowe.
