Fraud Allegations and Lawsuit

In May 2024, a Harare-based car dealer, Matthew Musengezi, filed a US$3 million lawsuit against Ushendibaba, accusing him of fraud and breach of contract.

The lawsuit claims that in 2018, Musengezi entrusted Ushendibaba with 19 luxury vehicles, including Range Rovers, Mercedes GLEs, and Toyota Land Cruisers. The agreement stipulated that Ushendibaba would sell the vehicles, deduct storage fees, and remit the remaining proceeds to Musengezi. However, Musengezi alleges that he did not receive any payment from the sales.

Musengezi also accuses Ushendibaba of mismanaging a joint venture in gold trading. He claims to have provided Ushendibaba with US$221,000 for permits, licences, and capital but alleges that the funds were never accounted for or returned.

The lawsuit further implicated prominent business figures who allegedly purchased vehicles from Ushendibaba but failed to pay for them. Musengezi asserts that Ushendibaba cited non-payment by businessman Kuda Tagwirei as a reason for withholding his money.

Rumours suggested that Musengezi has fled Zimbabwe due to alleged threats from Ushendibaba and his former lawyer.
