Career in Music
Gwaza’s passion for music began during his school years when he actively participated in choir groups both at school and in church. This led him to establish a 90s music group called the Gospel Millionaires. However, due to conflicting demands between his business pursuits and music, Gwaza had to temporarily set aside his musical aspirations. Nevertheless, he continued to contribute to the industry by formulating ideas, funding projects, and working behind the scenes, finding solace in the success of these ventures, even if he didn’t receive direct recognition.
Gwaza played a significant role in the career of Freddy “Kapfupi” Manjalima, providing funding for his street theatre performances and supporting his entry into the music industry. Although Gwaza observed from the sidelines as Kapfupi achieved great success in the music industry, he later experienced a downturn in his career, returning to relative obscurity.
Subsequently, Peter Gwaza established Kenako Musik, a record label that takes its name from the Sotho phrase meaning “the time has come.” In 2011, Gwaza founded Kenako Media, a multi-platform media house with a focus on social entertainment and lifestyle. Kenako Media serves as the parent company of Kenako Musik.
Kenako Media operates two online publications: The Parade, a digital magazine, and The Business Week, a platform catering to business professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe and around the world. In 2015, Kenako Media was granted a webcasting license by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe.
