Macmillan is currently under investigation by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) for alleged money laundering claims. The investigation came after news channel Al Jazeera completed a four-part documentary series, Gold Mafia, which implicated significant political leaders through corruption and being affiliated with suspected criminal activity. The documentary claimed that Macmillan had high-profile political business partners, including Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Macmillan was quoted as saying, “And you will not believe this, my partner is the president. I did 60 days in prison, and my partner is the new president.”
