This is the biography of Gilbert Mushangazhike, a Zimbabwean former professional footballer and current coach. Primarily a striker, he had a diverse career spanning multiple countries and clubs.
Gilbert Mushangazhike Early Career
Mushangazhike was born on 11 August 1975 in Harare. He began his football journey with Fire Batteries, a club based in Zimbabwe. Between 1991 and 1992, he was part of their youth setup. He made his senior debut for Fire Batteries in 1993, playing until 1995. During his tenure, he appeared in 12 matches and scored ten goals.
International Experience
In 1996, Mushangazhike moved to Germany to join Kickers Emden. However, he did not make any appearances for the club.
Seeking more playing opportunities, he transferred to South Africa’s Manning Rangers in 1997. Over six seasons, he made 138 appearances and scored 63 goals, establishing himself as a key player.
In 2003, Mushangazhike had a loan spell with Jiangsu Sainty in China, featuring in 25 matches and scoring 13 goals. He then signed with Jiangsu Sainty, where he played until 2006, making 86 appearances and netting 27 goals.
Gilbert Mushangazhike Return to South Africa
Mushangazhike returned to South Africa in 2007, joining Orlando Pirates. He played 27 matches and scored seven goals over two seasons. In 2009, he was loaned to Mpumalanga Black Aces, making 11 appearances without scoring.
Gilbert Mushangazhike Later Career and Coaching
After leaving Orlando Pirates, Mushangazhike had brief stints with Manzini Sundowns in Swaziland and Power Masters in Zimbabwe. He also played for Black Rhinos in Zimbabwe.
Transitioning to coaching, Mushangazhike took over as head coach of Golden Eagles FC, a third-tier team in Zimbabwe, in 2019.
Gilbert Mushangazhike International Career
Mushangazhike earned 87 caps and scored four goals for the Zimbabwe national team between 1997 and 2008. He was part of the squad for the 2006 African Nations Cup.
