Career

Mpofu is a Zimbabwean long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon. He is Zimbabwe’s record holder, with a personal best of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 16 seconds.

Isaac Mpofu has represented Zimbabwe at major international competitions. In 2019, he competed in the men’s marathon at the World Athletics Championships, finishing in 52nd place. He also represented Zimbabwe at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, where he finished 10th in the men’s marathon. It was then that Mpofu first set a Zimbabwean record in the men’s marathon.

Isaac Mpofu has had a successful career in recent years. In 2024, he participated in the Boston Marathon, finishing sixth with a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 17 seconds, beating his previous record of 2 hours and 14 minutes, which saw him finish ninth in 2023. Earlier in 2024, Mpofu won a bronze medal in the half-marathon at the African Games in Accra, Ghana. He also won the FNB Kazungula Bridge marathon in February and finished third in the Tanganda half-marathon before winning a similar competition during the Econet Victoria Falls event.

2024 Paris Olympics

Mpofu secured his place in the 2024 Paris Olympics in December 2022 when he ran 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 48 seconds at the Valencia Marathon. Ahead of the Olympics, Mpofu received a $10,000 sponsorship package from Nedbank to cover his training facilities and logistical support.

In his Olympic debut, Mpofu finished 19th in the men’s marathon event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with a time of 2 hours 10 minutes 9 seconds.
