This is the biography of Joshua Kurt Sacco, a Zimbabwean politician and former musician. He is a member of the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU–PF) and represents the Chimanimani East constituency in the National Assembly of Zimbabwe. Sacco also serves as the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development.
Early Life and Education
Joshua Sacco was born in Cape Town, South Africa. His parents, Robert Paul and Mary Elizabeth Sacco, were anti-apartheid activists and members of the African National Congress (ANC). In 1981, the family moved to Zimbabwe, seeking refuge from the apartheid regime. They settled in Chimanimani, Manicaland Province, where his parents established the Nyahode Union Learning Centre, a non-profit educational institution.
Sacco attended Kwirire Primary School and Nyahode High School. He completed his Advanced Level (A-Level) studies at Mutare Boys’ High School. Despite initial difficulties with the Shona language, he eventually became fluent, including the Ndau dialect.
Musical Career
Sacco’s musical journey began at Nyahode High School, where he sang in the school choir. He later formed the Radiation Band, which produced revolutionary music. The band performed at ZANU–PF rallies and supported the government’s land redistribution programme. Their notable songs include “Chenjera” and “Ivhu”.
Joshua Sacco Political Career
Sacco joined ZANU–PF in 1999 at the cell level. He gradually rose through the ranks, serving on the District Committee and the National Youth League Executive Committee. Eventually, he became a member of the party’s Central Committee.
In 2013, Sacco contested the ZANU–PF primary election for the Chimanimani East constituency. Although he did not win, he continued his political activities. In the 2018 general election, he was elected to the National Assembly, representing Chimanimani East. He was re-elected in the 2023 general election.
In September 2023, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Sacco Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development.
Joshua Sacco Personal Life
Sacco is married to Mercy Vhiki, and they have four children. The family resides in Chimanimani. Sacco is also involved in business and farming.
