This is the biography of Lloyd Chigowe, a Zimbabwean football coach known for his involvement with Dynamos Football Club in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. He has also coached the Zimbabwe Under-17 national team.

 

Early Life

Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe was born in Mbare, a suburb of Harare, Zimbabwe. Details about his early life and family background are limited.

 

Lloyd Chigowe Education

Chigowe pursued journalism at CCOSA in 1989. He had a short attachment with The Herald in 1990. Additionally, he holds diplomas in Human Resources Management and Business Studies from Harare Polytechnic.

 

Lloyd Chigowe Coaching Career

Dynamos Football Club

Chigowe has served in various coaching capacities at Dynamos over the years. In 2018, Chigowe was appointed as the caretaker coach of Dynamos, replacing Lloyd Mutasa. He helped the team avoid relegation and was subsequently given a three-year contract. However, his tenure was short-lived, as he was fired in April 2019 after a loss to Herentals Football Club.

In 2022, Chigowe, who was the Dynamos youth coach at the time, was fired over an age-cheating scandal.

He has also been an assistant coach at Dynamos over the years. In August 2024, Chigowe was appointed as the interim head coach of Dynamos following the resignation of Genesis Mangombe. This change came after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Bulawayo Chiefs, which led to a crisis meeting by the club’s leadership.

National Team

Chigowe, alongside Steve Kwashi, coached the Zimbabwe Under-17 team that qualified for the Africa Youth Championship in 1997. This team included notable players like Murape Murape.

In July 2022, Chigowe resigned as Dynamos Juniors coach amid age-cheating allegations involving the club’s Under-17 team. He cited his new role as chairman of Zimbabwe junior football in Harare Province as the reason for his resignation.

 

Personal Life

Chigowe is married to Thandiwe and has four children. His eldest daughter, Chido, holds a Social Science degree, while his other children are involved in various fields. Footballer Devon Chafa is his nephew.

Legacy

Chigowe is credited with grooming several notable Zimbabwean footballers, including Devon Chafa, Chamu Musanhu, and Gilbert Mushangazhike.
