Lovemore Matuke Biography | Education | Political Career and Appointments | 2013 Suspension
This is the biography of Lovemore Matuke, a Zimbabwean politician and a senior member of the Zanu-PF party. As of November 19, 2024, he serves as the Minister of State for National Security.
Education
Matuke holds an Honours Degree in Development Studies from the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU).
Political Career
Matuke began his political career as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gutu Central before becoming a Zanu-PF Senator for Harare East. He also served as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare.
In 2015, the Zanu-PF Politburo endorsed Matuke as the party’s parliamentary chief whip, succeeding Jorum Gumbo, who became Transport Minister.
He served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Energy, Mines, and Power Development.

Ministerial Appointments
- Minister of State for Provincial Affairs: Following the 2023 general elections, Matuke was appointed Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in the Office of the President and Cabinet on September 11, 2023.
- Minister of State for National Security: On November 19, 2024, Matuke was appointed to this role by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
In December 2017, Matuke was appointed Secretary for National Security in Zanu-PF. He is regarded as a loyalist of President Mnangagwa.
Suspension and Return
In 2013, Matuke was suspended as Zanu-PF Masvingo Provincial Chairman for endorsing Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke’s nomination papers over the party’s preferred candidate, Elias Musakwa. He was suspended alongside provincial secretary for administration Edmund Mhere.
Matuke returned to the party following the 2014 expulsion of former Vice-President Joice Mujuru and her faction. His loyalty to President Mnangagwa contributed to his reinstatement and subsequent rise within the party.
