This is the biography of Luke “VaHombe” Masomere a Zimbabwean football coach known for his influence in both Zimbabwean and Botswanan football. Masomere gained recognition for his successes at various clubs and his bold self-proclaimed title, His Excellency, The Doctor of Football, after leading Manica Diamonds to an undefeated season in the ZIFA Eastern Region.

Club Career
Manica Diamonds
Masomere joined Manica Diamonds in 2017, guiding the newly formed club to promotion into Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League in their maiden season. In 2018, they set a record with 82 points in the Eastern Region Division One League, achieving an undefeated run that earned Masomere the ZIFA Eastern Region Coach of the Year award.
Despite the early success, his tenure with Manica Diamonds ended in 2019 following a winless streak of seven games. Masomere cited poor working conditions and lack of support from club executives, which he claimed hindered his ability to meet the club’s ambitious targets.
Shabanie Mine
In 2013, Masomere led Shabanie Mine to victory in the BancABC Super 8 Cup, defeating rivals FC Platinum in the final.
Border Strikers
He joined Border Strikers in 2014 after the club sacked its coaching staff, attempting to save the team from relegation.
How Mine
Masomere took over How Mine FC but resigned in 2015 after the team struggled to deliver results despite significant investment in players. He later criticized the recruitment of aging players and internal issues at the club.
Mutare City Rovers
In 2023, Masomere was appointed head coach of Mutare City Rovers in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One. His stint ended after a forced leave due to alleged player protests, leaving the club in fifth place with 17 points from 10 matches.
ZPC Kariba
In June 2023, Masomere took charge of ZPC Kariba, replacing interim coach Newsome Mutema. However, his contract ended in December 2023, and he announced another sabbatical from football.
Other Clubs
Masomere’s coaching career included roles at top clubs such as Dynamos, Masvingo United, and CAPS United. He also coached in Botswana, leading teams like Gaborone, Nico United, and Notwane. Notably, he won the Zimbabwean championship with Amazulu in 2003.
National Team Experience
Masomere briefly served as head coach of Zimbabwe’s national team from 2008 to 2009, adding international experience to his coaching portfolio.
