Career
Jongwe, originally a teacher, began his coaching career in 2005 with Buymore Football Club after being discovered by Wavell Gunda at Juru Growth Point. In his first season as a Premiership coach, he guided Buymore to a fifth-place finish, behind teams such as CAPS United, Masvingo United, Highlanders, and Motor Action.
Following his success at Buymore, Jongwe went on to coach several other clubs, including CAPS United, Kiglon, and Monomotapa United. In 2011, he was appointed head coach of CAPS United, replacing Moses Chunga, but resigned after just 41 days.
After a 12-year break from top-tier coaching, Jongwe returned to the Premiership in August 2023, taking over as head coach of Yadah Stars from Expense Chitukutuku, who was demoted to assistant coach. Jongwe’s debut match saw Yadah Stars defeat Cranborne Bullets in a Chibuku Super Cup preliminary round at Baobab Stadium.
Later in 2023, Jongwe was hired by Chegutu Pirates to help the team avoid relegation from the Premier Soccer League. At the time of his appointment, Chegutu Pirates were 17th on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League standings with 19 points from 23 matches.
In April 2014, Jongwe was appointed as the ZIFA Technical Director, succeeding Nelson Matongorere, who was removed from the position after being found guilty of improper conduct during the 2012 FIFA World Coach and Player of the Year awards voting process.
Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe also coached the now-defunct Monomotapa United Football Club after leaving Kiglon Football Club.
Currently, Jongwe coaches Chegutu Pirates in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League, having been hired by the club in their bid to avoid relegation and stay in the Premier Soccer League on 21 August 2024. At the time when he was hired, Chegutu Pirates were second from bottom (17) on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log standings with a paltry 19 points from 23 matches.
