Arrest for Drug Possession
M’diwa Chanetsa and a male friend were arrested on charges of possessing a dangerous drug. The arrest was made by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs, following a tip-off.
On February 22, 2024, detectives from CID Drugs received information that M’diwa and her male friend were in possession of drugs at a residence in Avonlea, Harare. Acting on the tip-off, the detectives conducted a search and discovered a sachet containing methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as ecstasy, under a sofa in the dining room. The total weight of the substance was approximately 1.30 grams, with an estimated street value of ZW$195,000. The seized substance was documented as evidence for presentation in court.
Temba Mliswa, M’diwa’s father, publicly expressed his support for the Zimbabwe Republic Police following his daughter’s arrest. In a series of posts, he acknowledged his daughter’s academic achievements but also revealed her refusal to comply with the guidelines he sets for his other children. Mliswa advocated for stricter penalties against drug dealers, including politicians, due to the potential harm caused by drugs. He emphasized the destructive consequences of drug use, citing examples of children he has witnessed suffering as a result.
Mliswa called for tougher penalties for drug sellers, equating drug peddling with attempted murder, given the deadly nature of drug use. He specifically mentioned that politicians involved in drug trafficking should face even harsher consequences, considering the additional harm they can cause to society.
