Zimbabwe to UK: Driver’s Licence Conversion Made Clear

In a recent announcement by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development in Zimbabwe, in collaboration with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) of the United Kingdom, significant changes have been made regarding the conversion of Zimbabwe driver’s licences for use in the UK. The new policy aims to streamline the process and ensure compliance with driving regulations in both countries.

New Policy Highlights

The Ministry of Transport, Zimbabwe, has outlined the key aspects of the new policy:

  1. Limited Exchange: DVLA will only accept the exchange of class 4 driver’s licences for those proficient in driving light motor vehicles and class 2 licences for individuals operating trucks.
  2. Requirements for Class 2 Holders: Holders of class 2 licences who intend to drive light motor vehicles in the UK have two options: either return to Zimbabwe to downgrade their licence or obtain a class 4 licence in the United Kingdom.
  3. Assistance Available: Those seeking to downgrade their licences or obtain guidance on the process are encouraged to approach the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) offices for assistance before visiting the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID).
  4. No Impact on Different Class Dates: Holders of both class 2 and class 4 licences obtained on different test dates will not be affected by the new policy.
