This is the biography of Professor Paul Mapfumo, a Zimbabwean academic who currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).

Education
Professor Paul Mapfumo earned a Bachelor of Science Honours in Agriculture (BSc Hons Agric), a Master of Philosophy (MPhil), and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Zimbabwe.
Career
Professor Paul Mapfumo was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in June 2019. He succeeded Professor Levi Nyagura, who stepped down from the position in April 2019 after a long tenure. The appointment is for a five-year term starting from June 10, 2019. Before his official appointment, Professor Mapfumo had been serving as the Acting Vice Chancellor since August 17, 2018.
In addition to his role at UZ, Professor Mapfumo has held several other notable positions. He served as the chairperson of the National Manpower Advisory Council, was a board member of the Zimbabwe Staff College Control Board and the Zimbabwe National Army Schools Welfare Trust, and was a lead expert for the Zimbabwe National Geospatial Agency. He also participated in the Zimbabwe Climate Change Negotiation Delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change during the periods 2014-2016 and 2018. Furthermore, he was a member of the United Nations High-Level Panel of Experts of the Committee on World Food Security and a convener for the UN International Report on Agroecology.
