This is the biography of Shailet Moyo an officer of the Zimbabwe National Army and the first female Brigadier General since Zimbabwe attained independence in 1980.

Shailet Moyo is a mother of four.
Education
Moyo graduated with a degree in Defence Studies from the National Defence College in 2013 and was studying towards a Master’s in International Relations in the same year. She also holds an HND honours in human resources.

Career in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces
Moyo joined the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) in 1983 as a lieutenant. She rose through the ranks, becoming captain in 1985, major in 1994, lieutenant colonel in 2002, and colonel in 2004 before being promoted to the rank of brigadier general, effective September 5, 2013.
Moyo’s brigadier general rank was conferred in a ceremony presided over by Lieutenant-General Philip Valerio Sibanda. She was promoted by President Robert Mugabe in terms of section 15(1)(b) of the Defence Act (Chapter 11:02).
After her promotion, Moyo was assigned Brigadier General (administration) based at Army Headquarters, though she was expected to perform duties like any other Brigadier General, making her the most powerful woman in the army.
