This is the biography of Tapiwanashe Makarawu, a Zimbabwean sprinter who competed in the men’s 200 meters at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Age
Tapiwanashe Makarawu was born on 14 August 2000.
Education
Makarawu attended Bradley High School and then Bindura University of Science Education in 2021. He later moved to the United States to attend New Mexico Junior College. He joined the Zimbabwe National Sports Academy in 2016.
Career
Makarawu has had a successful career as a sprinter:
- In April 2023, he set a new personal best and national record for the 200 metres, running 20.10 seconds at the Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout. This performance broke the Zimbabwean national record, which had been held by Brian Dzingai for almost 2 decades.
- At the same event, he also lowered his 100m personal best to 10.05 seconds.
- Prior to a minor injury at the start of the 2023 American summer, Makarawu lowered his 200 metres personal best to 19.98 seconds.
- He competed at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the men’s 200m event in Budapest, where he came fourth in his heat with a time of 20.64 seconds, but did not qualify for the semi-finals.
- In January 2024, he ran an indoor 200m personal best of 20.29 seconds at the Texas International in Lubbock.
- In April 2024, Makarawu lowered his outdoor 200 metres personal best to 19.93 seconds, which earned him a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
