Taurai Kandishaya Vs Hopewell Chin’ono
In 2022, Kandishaya was involved in a public controversy with journalist Hopewell Chin’ono. The dispute arose after Chin’ono criticised the ZANU PF government at the World Summit on Human Rights in Geneva, where he highlighted severe issues in Zimbabwe’s health system, including the lack of cancer machines and inadequate maternity facilities.
Chin’ono received threats from Kandishaya, who falsely claimed the journalist’s goats were part of a government project and threatened to confiscate them. Chin’ono provided evidence that he had imported the goats from South Africa, but the threats persisted, and Kandishaya threatened to invade Chin’ono’s farm in Murehwa12 and seize the Boer goat project. This incident drew significant public attention and criticism. Villagers, civic society leaders, and opposition activists formed a human shield to protect Chin’ono’s property.
