This is the biography of Tererayi Moyo, a Zimbabwean politician and educator. He was appointed Minister of Primary and Secondary Education in September 2023 by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Tererayi Moyo was born on November 25, 1969.
Wife and Children
Moyo is married to Professor Stanzia Moyo, who serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Zimbabwe. Together, they have three children: Dr. Tarisiro Moyo, Tafadzwa Moyo (an accountant), and Tererai Moyo (an engineering student).
Education
Moyo began his education at Mutehwe Primary School, attending from 1977 to 1984. He then moved to Nembudziya Secondary School for Form 1 in 1985. He attended St Patrick’s Mission School from 1985 to 1988 and completed his secondary education at Tongogara High School in 1990.
In 1993, Moyo obtained a Diploma in Education from Gweru Teachers’ College. He later earned a BA (Hons) in Economic History from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) between 1999 and 2001, followed by a Master of Arts in History, completed between 2002 and 2003. As of November 2023, he is pursuing a PhD in Humanities.
Career as an Educator
Moyo began his teaching career at Dalyn Mine Secondary School from 1994 to 1995, before moving to Ngezi High School, where he taught from 1995 to 2002. He then worked at St Oswald’s Zimhindo High School from 2002 to 2003, Harare Polytechnic from 2004 to 2005, and later joined the University of Zimbabwe, where he served as an educator from 2005 to 2018.

Career as a Politician
In 2018, Moyo was elected Member of Parliament for Gokwe Chireya under the Zanu PF party. He was also appointed Chair of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Primary and Secondary Education.
In the 2023 elections held on August 23, Moyo was re-elected as MP for Gokwe Chireya, defeating candidates from the Citizens’ Coalition for Change and an Independent. Following the elections, President Mnangagwa appointed Moyo as Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, with Angeline Gata serving as his deputy.
