Theft Case
On November 26, 2024, Wiriranayi Muchemwa, alongside Ward 15 councillor Knowledge Chipindu, appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court on charges of theft. The case involved the alleged misappropriation of a US$12,000 donation in the form of mealie meal intended for the community.
The charges stem from claims that Muchemwa and Chipindu stole the donation, which was provided by Black Cube Mining Company, represented by its human resources manager, Wang Qun.
According to court records, on April 10, 2024, Muchemwa reportedly contacted Wang Qun via WhatsApp to request US$12,000. He allegedly stated the funds would support constituency infrastructure development for the period from April 2024 to April 2025.
A meeting was convened involving representatives from various organizations, including Black Cube Mining, Yang Sheng, and Inducorn. During the discussions, the mining companies agreed to contribute mealie meal, while Inducorn pledged a US$4,000 cash donation.
The mealie meal was to be distributed during a Presidential address at Nhakiwa Business Centre, Murewa. Black Cube Mining and Yang Sheng purchased 50 tonnes of maize from Paguyo Millers to produce 40 tonnes of mealie meal.
The State alleged that 20 tonnes of mealie meal were delivered to Murehwa Milling Company but were later sold instead of being distributed to the intended beneficiaries. Chipindu is accused of facilitating the sale.
Muchemwa and Chipindu were not asked to enter pleas during their court appearance, presided over by Magistrate Tildah Mazhande.
