Background
Uncle Roland, born in 1969 in Zimbabwe with the name Iseanesu Rolen Muchegwa, hasn’t provided specific information about his parents. However, it is known that his father was employed at the Cold Storage Commission. At a young age, his family moved to Harare, but there is no mention of his siblings.
Education
Following his completion of elementary school, Uncle Roland pursued his education at Mukai High School in Highfield. According to reports, Uncle Roland was regarded as one of the brightest students at the school.
Arrest
Uncle Roland faced legal consequences when he was arrested for possessing Mbanje. After a trial, he was found guilty and received a two-year prison sentence.
Businesses And Sources of Wealth
After completing his two-year prison sentence, Uncle Roland ventured into the business of buying and reselling second-hand imported clothes to generate income. Eventually, Victor Mereki introduced him to the petroleum industry.
Numerous reports suggested that Mr Muchengwa was a fugitive evading the Zimbabwean authorities. However, he publicly refuted these allegations in October 2019.
Uncle Roland asserted that his wealth was entirely legitimate, emphasizing that he had secured contracts to supply fuel in Zimbabwe and other countries within the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Additionally, he disclosed his ownership of a prominent club in South Africa and a mining operation.
Wife
Muchengwa was formerly married to Briggete Mpofu but they divorced after a short period of time. He later married Michelle Kawome, a businesswoman, but their marriage also ended in divorce.
In 2015, Uncle Roland’s wife reported that Uncle Roland had physically abused Uncle Roland, causing him severe injuries. There were also reports of an altercation between Muchengwa and the late Harare lawyer, Mr. Eddie Jori, where Muchengwa accused Jori of having an affair with Michelle.
Frozen Accounts
In December 2019, Uncle Roland faced a setback when South African authorities froze his accounts due to allegations of unethical business practices and tax evasion.
The South Africa Revenue Services (SARS) launched an investigation into Uncle Roland for tax evasion, prompted by suspicions of his involvement in illicit fuel deals. As a result, his company and bank accounts were frozen to facilitate the investigation.
Uncle Roland’s extravagant lifestyle drew attention, leading to a lifestyle audit conducted by the authorities after his opulent way of living became viral on social media.
Despite the challenging times, Uncle Roland managed to overcome his business ordeal and subsequently opened a new branch for his business in Zambia.
