Lloyd Mutasa Biography | Career as a Footballer, Coaching Career, Accolades

This is the biography of Lloyd “Samaita” Mutasa is a Zimbabwean football coach and former player known for his association with Dynamos Football Club and his coaching stints with various teams, including Green Fuel Football Club.

Career as a Footballer

Mutasa had a successful playing career with Dynamos, winning the league title with the team in 1994, 1995, and 1997. He was part of notable squads alongside players like Callisto Pasuwa, Gift Muzadzi, and Masimba Dinyero, earning recognition for his goal-scoring abilities.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Mutasa pursued a career in coaching. He obtained the CAF A coaching badge and began coaching various teams in the premier league. He gained recognition as the head coach of Kiglon Football Club, leading them to promotion to the Premiership in 2007. He replicated this success with Highway and Kiglon in 2009.

Mutasa’s coaching style emphasized a youthful team and a passing game.

Dynamos

He later became the head coach of Dynamos Football Club, where he brought talented players such as Gift Bello, Archford Gutu, and Denver Mukamba to the club. Although his tenure at Dynamos was short, the team went on to win the league title after his departure.

He has also coached other teams including FC Platinum and served as an assistant coach for the national team. In 2018, he was relieved of his duties at Dynamos after a string of losses. He later joined TelOne Football Club as the first assistant coach to Rahman Gumbo but left in December 2019 after his contract expired.

Green Fuel Football Club

In 2022, Mutasa led Eastern Region Division One Football League side GreenFuel to the Premiership, making him one of the few coaches to achieve this feat with at least three second-tier teams.

He later transitioned to become Green Fuel FC’s technical director in March 2023 after stepping down as head coach. However, he and his successor, Bekithemba Ndlovu, were relieved of their duties in April 2023 following a series of disappointing results.

MWOS Football Club

Mutasa was appointed coach of ZIFA Northern Region Division One side MWOS FC in May 2023, signing a three-year contract. He was joined by former coach Wonder Ngoko as his assistant.

Accolades

Mutasa won three Premier League titles as a player during his career.
