Sha Sha, real name Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro, is a Zimbabwean-born singer and music writer who is based in South Africa.
She was born on 13 July 1994. In 2023 she will be 29 years old.
Mapimbiro’s hometown is Mutare but she spent some of her time in Bulawayo and South Africa because her parents had separated when she was young. This helped her proficiency in isiZulu.
Her music journey began after joining the choir, subsequently taking vocal and piano lessons as a child
Initially, she wanted to be a nurse, but she found her true calling after encouragement from her peers.
Referred to as the “Queen of Amapiano”, the star started her career sometime in 2011 when she was 19.
In 2013, Audius Mtawarira discovered her and he became her mentor. The renowned musician helped Mapimbiro to improve her craft and also to break into the South African music scene.
She set out for South Africa where she performed at restaurants and sang ballads at weddings. She befriended Melusi Mhlanga, a cab driver who drove her to her gigs.
Narrating how she met South African musician and record producer DJ Maphorisa she said she did a lot of her gigs at night and her cab driver one day asked her why she always moved around at night.
After she informed him that she was a singer, it turned out that the cab driver also drove DJ Maphorisa.
The cab driver introduced her to DJ Maphorisa who gave a nod to her music after she sang for him.
To date, Mapimbiro has worked with prominent South African artists such as Focalistic, DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Mellow & Sleazy, Ami Faku, Blxckie, Rowlene, and A-Reece.
In October last year, her image was showcased on a colossal Spotify billboard in Times Square, New York City, solidifying her status as one of Africa’s most promising young musicians of today.
