This is the biography of Lynette Karenyi-Kore, a Zimbabwean politician serving as one of the three rotational presidents of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC).

Her last-born daughter was born on 19 September.

Education

Lynette Karenyi-Kore completed her secondary school education at St Patrick’s Mission School. Afterwards, she pursued a secretarial course and also took courses in good governance and information, communication, and technology (ICT). She holds a Bachelor of Laws (BLL) degree and a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).

Career

Karenyi-Kore’s political career began in 1999 when she joined the MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) and became the Ward 16 Secretary in Mutare. In 2000, she was promoted to the position of District Secretary for Mutare North.

In 2003, Karenyi-Kore made history as the first elected MDC Councillor for Ward 16, serving on the Mutare City Council. She furthered her involvement in the party by becoming the Provincial Secretary for Manicaland province in 2006 and later assumed the role of National Organizing Secretary for the Assembly of Women in 2007.

During the June 2008 elections, Karenyi-Kore secured a seat as a Member of Parliament for Chimanimani West. However, she was unsuccessful in the 2013 elections, losing to the Zanu-PF candidate Munacho Mutezo.

In 2014, Karenyi-Kore was elected as the National Chairperson of the MDC-T Women’s Assembly, a position she held until she was appointed Vice President during the party’s Congress on May 25, 2019.

Following the merger of various factions into the MDC Alliance, Karenyi-Kore was elected as one of the three Vice Presidents during the first MDC Alliance Congress in May 2019. The other Vice Presidents were Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube.

In the August 2023 elections, Lynette Karenyi-Kore was elected Chikanga Constituency member of parliament as a candidate of the CCC.

On February 17, 2024, Lynette Karenyi-Kore was announced as one of the three leaders who would assume the leadership of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) on a rotational basis for 90 days until the party held its congress. Additionally, she was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.
