This is the biography of Nelson ‘Maoko’ Chadya a professional footballer from Zimbabwe who plays as a goalkeeper for Ngezi Platinum Football Club. He is recognized as one of the youngest goalkeepers to compete for the senior team of Ngezi Platinum in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. Additionally, Chadya has represented the Zimbabwe national Under-20 football team.

Nelson Chadya was born on April 5, 1997.

Playing Career

Chadya began his football journey while still in school. In the 2016 season, he served as the starting goalkeeper for Ngezi Platinum F.C., helping the team secure the Chibuku Super Cup by defeating FC Platinum 3-1. He also contributed to Ngezi Platinum’s seventh-place finish in the 16-team Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.

Chadya enhanced his reputation as a well-rounded goalkeeper in the Premiership, notably achieving his third assist of the 2024 season during a 4-0 victory over Herentals on November 9, 2024, at Baobab Stadium.

He has been recognized for his consistency, appearing in the Soccer Stars calendar for two consecutive seasons in 2022 and 2023. In the 2024 season, Chadya finished as the runner-up to Donovan Benard, recording 17 clean sheets.

International Career

Chadya has represented the Zimbabwean Under-20 national football team. He participated in the 2016 Cosafa U-20 Championship held in South Africa, where the team was eliminated in the group stage after finishing third in their group. In 2017, he was selected as one of three goalkeepers for the Zimbabwe Warriors squad for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon.
