Gilbert Muponda Biography | Age | Education | Corruption Allegations & Charges | Political Career

Gilbert Muponda is a Zimbabwean entrepreneur and investment banker. He is the founder of GMRI Capital and co-founder of 3MG Media Limited. Muponda was also a shareholder in the local financial institution, CFX Bank.

Age

Gilbert Muponda was born on February 10, 1975.

Education

Muponda attended Allan Wilson High School, where he demonstrated leadership and creativity. He founded the Reporters Club and launched the Le Sable School Magazine. Additionally, he captained the National High Schools Quiz Team in 1993.

For his higher education, Muponda studied at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), where he represented finance students as their class representative. He also participated in student politics and was elected to the University Senate as a representative of the Faculty of Commerce.

Corruption Allegations and Charges

In 2003, Gilbert Muponda and co-director Nyasha Watyoka were arrested following the collapse of ENG Capital, which failed to pay creditors. Muponda fled Zimbabwe in 2004 while facing corruption charges related to the mishandling of investor funds.

In March 2004, Muponda returned and handed himself over to authorities. He was jailed temporarily and brought before a magistrate. However, the charges against him were later dismissed due to a lack of evidence.

Political Career

In 2018, Gilbert Muponda entered politics and was elected to represent ZANU-PF in the 2018 elections.
