This is the biography of Albert Tawanda Mavunga, a Zimbabwean politician and a member of ZANU-PF. He currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works, with responsibilities for Local Authorities and Traditional Leadership.
Education
Mavunga earned three degrees from Liberty University:
- Associate of Arts in Religion
- Bachelor of Science in Communication
- Master of Arts in Executive Leadership
He has credited his education and mentorship under Dr. Jerry Falwell, the university’s founder, as instrumental in preparing him for his role in community service and leadership.

Political Career
Member of Parliament
Mavunga was elected Member of Parliament for Nketa Constituency in December 2023 after winning the by-elections.
Ministerial Appointment
On February 13, 2025, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Mavunga as the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works, where he is responsible for overseeing Local Authorities and Traditional Leadership.
Philanthropy
Before entering politics, Mavunga was actively involved in humanitarian work. He founded and serves as Director of Smile for Africa, a faith-based organization that supports local communities by providing:
- Food assistance
- Clean water access
- Educational support
Smile for Africa also operates:
- An assisted living facility
- A drug rehabilitation center
- Sports ministry programs for evangelistic outreach
