This is the biography of Andrew ‘Tower’ Mbeba, a professional footballer from Zimbabwe who plays as a central defender for Highlanders Football Club and the national team.

Background

Andrew Mbeba grew up in Barbourfields, Bulawayo.

Age

He was born on 19 February 2000.

Education

Mbeba attended Mzilikazi High School, where he studied alongside notable players such as Archford Faira and Kelly Shiyandindi.

Club Career

Mbeba’s passion for football began when he served as a ball-boy during the Africa Union Region 5 Games in Bulawayo in 2014. He gained recognition after being promoted from the Highlanders Juniors in 2018 to play as a central defender.

His partnership with Peter Muduhwa in the Highlanders’ defence has been highly regarded. On 20 August 2023, he celebrated his milestone of 100 matches, including league and cup games, during a match against Black Rhinos. In December 2023, Mbeba signed a two-year contract extension with Highlanders.

International Career

Mbeba captained the Zimbabwe Under-20 team, which won a silver medal at the Cosafa tournament in Zambia in 2019. He received his first senior national team call-up at the age of 20 for the Chan tournament in 2021. His senior international debut occurred on 24 January 2021, in a match against Mali during the 2020 African Nations Championship. He made his full debut against Rwanda in a 2026 World Cup Qualifier in 2023.

Awards

In 2018, Mbeba was honoured with the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Rookie of the Year award. During the 2023 season, he scored four goals and provided ten assists, earning a spot in the Best 11 of the season as Highlanders finished fifth in the league standings.
