This is the biography of John Gerald Tungamirai Takwara, a Zimbabwean professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Al-Minaa in the Iraq Stars League and the Zimbabwe national team.

Age

Gerald Takwara was born on October 29, 1994.

Club Career

Takwara started his football career in Zimbabwe, playing for Tsholotsho Pirates and F.C. Platinum. He later moved to South Africa to join Ajax Cape Town, where he played during the second half of the 2017/18 season. Despite his efforts, the club was relegated from the DStv Premiership, and Takwara then played in the National First Division. After failing to reach the play-offs with Ajax Cape Town, he returned to Zimbabwe to play for Ngezi Platinum during the 2019/20 season. On July 22, 2021, he joined Venda in South Africa.

On July 19, 2022, Takwara signed with Ohod, a Saudi Arabian club. After his contract expired at the end of the 2023 season, he left Ohod and became a free agent.

On August 13, 2024, Takwara signed with Al-Minaa, a club in the Iraq Stars League.

International Career

Gerald Takwara made his international debut for the Zimbabwe national team on July 4, 2015, in a 0–0 draw against Comoros during the 2016 African Nations Championship qualifiers. He was also part of Zimbabwe’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he was named Man of the Match in a 2-1 victory over Guinea. Additionally, Takwara was included in the Zimbabwean squad for the World Cup qualifiers in June 2021, where they played against Lesotho and South Africa.
