This is the biography of Edgar Moyo, a Zimbabwean politician and educator currently serving as the Minister of Energy and Power Development. He has previously held the position of Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
Age
Moyo was born in 1962 at Kezi Hospital and grew up in Halale, near the Njelele Shrine.

Education
Primary and Secondary Education
Moyo attended local primary schools before enrolling at Tennyson Hlabangana High School in Hope Fountain in 1976. He studied there until 1978 when, as a Form Three student, he left school in February to join the liberation war against Rhodesia, crossing the border into Botswana for military training. After the ceasefire in 1980, he returned to Zimbabwe and completed his Ordinary Level education at Tennyson Hlabangana High School.
Tertiary Education
In 1983, Moyo enrolled at Hillside Teachers College to train as a secondary school teacher, majoring in English with music as a secondary focus. He later pursued a degree in Education Management from the University of Pretoria and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) in 2011. As of 2018, Moyo was a PhD candidate with ZOU.

Teaching Career
Moyo’s teaching career began during the liberation war when he was deployed in Selebi-Phikwe, Botswana, by the ZAPU education department to teach fellow recruits awaiting military training in Zambia. He also worked in the ZAPU commissariat department, providing political education.
After completing his teacher training in 1987, Moyo briefly taught at Mzingwane High School before being assigned to Lubhangwe Secondary School in Kezi, where he became acting head due to a shortage of secondary school teachers. Over his career, he headed several secondary schools in the Kezi area, including Whitewater, St Sebastian (Sigangatsha), Ratanyana, Sontala, and Silozwi. He retired from teaching in July 2017.
Moyo also served in the Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta), rising to the position of national treasurer in 2008. During his time with Zimta, he participated in the National Joint Negotiating Council for the education sector and was appointed a board member of the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (Zimsec) from 2014 to 2017. He also sat on the finance committee of the Southern African Teachers Organisation.
Political Career
Following the 23-24 August 2023 elections, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Moyo as the Minister of Energy and Power Development on September 11, 2023.
Business
Moyo is a cattle rancher based in Kezi.
