This is the biography of Lawrence Nkala an engineer and the managing director of TelOne, a State-owned communication firm.
Education
Lawrence Nkala is an experienced ICT expert with over 20 years of experience in the Telecommunications/ICT industry. He holds a BSc Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA).
Career
Lawrence Nkala assumed the role of acting manager of TelOne in December 2022 following the resignation of Chipo Mutasa, who completed her two consecutive five-year terms as stipulated by the law governing public entities in the country.
Prior to his appointment as acting manager, Nkala served as the chief operating officer at TelOne.
The TelOne Board of Directors appointed Engineer Lawrence Nkala as the Chief Executive Officer of TelOne (Pvt) Limited, effective July 1st, 2023.
As a Chartered Engineer, Nkala has been integral to TelOne Zimbabwe’s technical operations, serving as the Technical Director. Over his 16-year tenure, he has held various executive positions including Chief Operating Officer, Divisional Director of Infrastructure and Wholesale, and Head of Operations.

Nkala’s expertise lies in Telco strategy formulation, network transformation, and customer service enhancement. He has played a pivotal role in TelOne’s technological advancements, overseeing network infrastructure, technology deployment, information systems, innovative solutions, and digital platforms.
He is particularly recognized for his contributions to the establishment and expansion of TelOne’s wholesale and Cloud services business divisions.
Appointment to Transmedia Corporation Board
Lawrence Nkala was appointed as one of five experts to the Transmedia Corporation board of directors by Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere, effective January 9, 2024. His term spans four years, during which he is expected to contribute his expertise to the corporation’s strategic direction and governance.
