Accusations of Corruption

On June 24, 2019, while serving as Zanu-PF’s deputy secretary for Youth Affairs, Matutu accused 15 high-ranking party and government officials of corruption. He alleged they were involved in illegal foreign currency trading, price manipulation, and economic exploitation. The list of those he implicated included central bank officials, Cabinet ministers, and business leaders.

Fraud Allegations

On December 1, 2024, Matutu appeared in court on charges of stealing shares from a local company. Prosecutors accused him of conspiring with associates, including Blessing Tafadzwa Kusangaya, Muzimba, and Chikwasha Muhamba, to misappropriate shares belonging to Shusib Investments, a mining company led by Avurath Sibanda.

According to court filings, the alleged fraud began in 2018, with Matutu and his accomplices using the stolen shares to participate in an annual general meeting on November 19, 2024. During the meeting, they reportedly removed the complainant from the company’s directorship and altered the company’s official address.

Prosecutors claim these actions caused a financial loss of $150,000 to the complainant, with no recovery of the misappropriated assets. Matutu was granted free bail during his initial court appearance before Harare Magistrate Isheanesu Matova.
