Divorce
Losson Mtongwiza was previously married to Lizzie. They married in April 1998 and have two children. The couple is now divorced.
Career as a Rugby Administrator
In May 2024, Losson Mtongwiza was elected as the President of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) at the 129th Annual General Meeting in Harare. He defeated the incumbent, Aaron Jani, as well as two other candidates, Gerald Sibanda and Gilbert Nyamutsamba, in a closely contested election.
As the new ZRU President, Mtongwiza’s first few months in office were marked by success. In July 2024, the Zimbabwean national rugby team won the Rugby Africa Men’s Cup, defeating Algeria 29-3 in Kampala, Uganda. This was Zimbabwe’s first victory in the tournament in 12 years.
Prior to his election as President, Mtongwiza had held the positions of Vice-President and Team Manager within the ZRU. He was also part of the Zimbabwe national team’s administration during their Africa Cup triumph in 2012, the country’s first such victory in 20 years.
Businesses
Losson Mtongwiza has been involved in various business ventures over the years. He initially ventured into a solar project, but it was not successful. In 2008, he diversified into the automotive battery retail business, which eventually became the primary focus of his business activities.
Mtongwiza is the founder and owner of Raylite Batteries, an agent for the South African battery manufacturer, First National Batteries, which holds a significant market share in that country.
In addition to his battery business, Mtongwiza started a chicken farming project in Chegutu in 2012. This venture has expanded to include a chicken butchery in Harare and a fast-food business known as Rays Chicken.
