Education and Early Football Career
Chikuhwa began his football journey at Mzilikazi Primary School, where he attended from 1999 to 2005. His interest in football grew early, and by the age of 10, he joined Celtics, a local club founded by businessman Nhamo Rusamo. In 2006, at 13, he moved to Stock Field for further development.
Around 2009, Chikuhwa joined Highlanders Football Club’s Under-17 team, marking the beginning of his association with the club. He then briefly joined Bantu Rovers’ junior squad, playing alongside notable Zimbabwean players like Nqobizitha Masuku, Kuda Mahachi, and Marvelous Nakamba. He returned to Highlanders in 2012, playing in the Division Two team. After two years, he moved to Tsholotsho FC in early 2014, seeking new opportunities.
Club Career
Chikuhwa’s journey to Highlanders’ first team took several years, as he initially played in their development squad in the Zifa Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Division Two Soccer League. He left Highlanders in 2013 and joined Tsholotsho FC in 2014. At Tsholotsho, he became part of the team that won the Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League title, leading them to the Premiership.
During Tsholotsho FC’s debut Premiership season in 2015, Chikuhwa emerged as the club’s top scorer, netting eight goals. In 2016, limited playing time led him to seek opportunities abroad, landing a spot at Botswana’s Black Forest, where he played in the top-flight league. Chikuhwa scored 11 goals in his first season with Black Forest, securing his position as the team’s top scorer. The following season, he joined another Botswanan club, Security Systems, where he again topped the scoring chart with seven goals.
Chikuhwa signed with Miscellaneous for the 2018/19 season but faced a delay due to a contractual dispute. He eventually played the last nine games of the season, scoring 11 goals to become the club’s top scorer. He later joined BR Highlanders, scoring nine goals in the first half of the 2019/20 season. This performance drew the attention of Highlanders’ coach Mandla Mpofu, leading to his return to Bosso. However, the 2020 season was suspended due to COVID-19, resuming only in 2021.
On November 3, 2024, Chikuhwa achieved a milestone by scoring a hat-trick against Greenfuel at Barbourfields Stadium, leading Highlanders to a 4-0 victory. This made him the first Bosso player in nearly a decade to score three goals in a single match, a feat last achieved by Knox Mutizwa in 2015. Chikuhwa also became the first Highlanders player to reach a 10-goal mark in a season since Mutizwa’s 14-goal tally in 2015.
In October 2024, he won his second Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Player of the Month award. His achievements include:
- 2x PSL Player of the Month awards
- 1x Fuz Player of the Month award
- 1x Highlanders Players’ Player of the Month award
During the 2023 season, Chikuhwa scored three goals.
