Early Years
Maroto was born on 11 July 1983 in Zimbabwe. His journey from the junior ranks to professional football was nothing short of remarkable.

Maroto started playing football as a youngster and later played at Churchill Boys’ High School. While at school, he joined Dynamos Football Club, where he rose through the ranks to join the senior team in 2001. As part of the renowned “Kidznet” squad under coach Moses Chunga, Maroto showcased his skills and determination on the field.
In 2005, seeking new challenges, Maroto made a mid-season move to Buymore Football Club. However, it was his time at Gunners Football Club that truly defined his career. Under coach Moses Chunga, Maroto clinched a league title in 2009. Notably, he scored a crucial goal against his former team, Dynamos, in the title-deciding match.

Maroto’s performances caught the attention of national selectors, earning him three appearances for the Zimbabwe national team. His pace, skill, and ability to find the back of the net made him a fan favourite across the country.
Norman Maroto Record-Breaking Achievements
Maroto etched his name in Zimbabwean football history by becoming the last striker to score over 20 goals in a single Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. In 2010, he notched an impressive 22 goals for the now-defunct Gunners, earning the nickname “Lumumba” among fans.

After retiring from professional football, Maroto participated in the FIFA Legends training program in 2023. This initiative aimed to help retired players transition to new careers beyond the pitch. Death
Tragically, Norman Maroto passed away in the early hours of Friday, June 28, 2024, after a short illness. He had been admitted to a Harare private hospital, complaining of flu symptoms. Despite efforts to save him, Maroto’s condition deteriorated, and he was eventually put on life support. The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) confirmed his untimely passing, leaving the football community in mourning.
