This is the biography of Samuel Sipepa Nkomo a Zimbabwean former politician known for his involvement in various political parties, including the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and the National People’s Party (NPP).
Background
He is the brother of the late John Nkomo, who served as Zimbabwe’s vice president.
Contribution to Zimbabwe’s Independence
Nkomo played an important role in Zimbabwe’s fight for independence. He spent 14 years in prison due to his political activities during the struggle for the country’s liberation.
Political Career
Sipepa Nkomo’s political career spanned several decades, during which he was a member of multiple political parties. He was actively involved in the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), later becoming part of the National People’s Party (NPP).
He was also associated with the United Movement for Democratic Change (UMDC), an alliance between Welshman Ncube’s MDC faction and Tendai Biti’s MDC Renewal Team. Nkomo served as chairman of the MDC Renewal Team when a faction broke away from the MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai. Despite efforts to contest their expulsion from parliament, Nkomo and his colleagues were dismissed, and their seats were declared vacant.
Nkomo held the position of Minister of Water Resources Development and Management during the Government of National Unity (GNU), a coalition formed in the aftermath of Zimbabwe’s 2008 elections.
On September 13, 2018, Nkomo retired from politics after 58 years. At the time of his retirement, he was deputy leader of the National People’s Party, under Dr. Joice Mujuru.

In addition to his political work, Samuel Sipepa Nkomo also served as the CEO of Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe, which publishes the Daily News.
