This is the biography of Tino Machakaire, a Zimbabwean politician, businessman, and social figure known for his involvement in government and philanthropy. He has served as a Member of Parliament and as the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation and is the Minister of Youth Empowerment Development and Vocational Training in Zimbabwe.

 

Early Life and Education

Tino Machakaire was born on 23 November 1981 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

 

Professional And Business Career

In 1998, Machakaire began his journey in carpentry in Harare. By 1999, he had secured a contract position with ZESA in Rusape. During the Zim-dollar period, Machakaire explored various ventures, including engaging in currency trading to exchange the Zim dollar for the scarce US dollar and participating in cross-border trade. He initially entered the transport industry with a single vehicle, eventually expanding his fleet to include several commuter omnibuses that served the Marange route starting in 2003. Operating under Cunrode Investments, he also facilitated the importation of goods from South Africa for clients during the Zim-dollar era.

Machakaire founded TinMac Investments, which is primarily involved in the transportation sector, offering both passenger and goods transport services. By 2014, TinMac Investments had expanded significantly, boasting a fleet of 34 trucks operating across Southern Africa.

Tino Machakaire Political Career

In 2018, Machakaire was elected as a Member of Parliament for Hwedza South. Representing the ruling ZANU-PF party, he quickly became known for his grassroots approach.

In 2019, Machakaire was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation. In this role, he has overseen programmes aimed at empowering young people and promoting sports and the arts. Following the 2023 elections, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed him as the Minister of Youth Empowerment Development and Vocational Training. He is also the National Secretary for Youth Affairs within ZANU-PF.
