Poptain grew up in Gweru, where he did part of his primary education. He later moved to Harare in 2004. After finishing his primary education, he completed his high school education at Majlisul Ulama Zimbabwe (Independent College Zimbabwe).

Music Career
Although Poptain grew up listening to reggae and dancehall music, he did not think he would become a music sensation one day.
He recorded his first song in 2011, shortly after completing high school. Before his stage name became Poptain, he used to be called Mad Arzlaan, and it was his friend Nuddy Nice who gave him his current stage name.
Despite having several hits songs in the ghetto, he could not find airplay opportunities with promoters.
Poptain’s big break came when he collaborated with Allanah on the song “Fadza Mutengi,” which they performed on Nash TV. He explained that he had always used the term “mutengi” for his musical identity but did not expect to use it as a song title.
When he heard the beat, he immediately decided to put his all into it and called it “Fadza Mutengi.” Allanah’s voice went well with the song, and the rest became history.
Poptain’s music style is heavily influenced by Jamaican musician Mavado. In an interview, Poptain stated that Mavado’s style is “something else,” which inspires him to create unique and captivating music.

Relation With Anita Jaxson
In June 2021, Poptain revealed that he was dating Anita Jaxson, a fellow musician. However, in April 2022, Poptain and Anita Jaxson confirmed that their relationship was a sham, a fake romance to shore up their careers. In separate interviews, they both came clean on the affair, revealing that they never dated and were both in relationships.
