Clare Nyakujara is an Afro-fusion musician and acoustic player originally from Zimbabwe, now based in the United States.

Age

Nyakujara was born on 6 October 1984 in Harare, Zimbabwe. (aged 38, as of 2023). 

Career

Born as Clarybel Nakujara, Clare Nyakujara hails from Harare, Zimbabwe, where she spent her formative years.

Her journey as a professional musician commenced in 2002 when she became a backing vocalist for established artists, a role she continued until 2009. During this time, she also graced Open mic events in Harare.

In 2010, Nyakujara released her debut album titled “Haudinei”, which featured popular tracks like “Haudinei” and “Gwenyambira”.

These songs gained significant airplay on radio stations in Zimbabwe, particularly on Classic 263 FM, formerly known as Spot FM. Notably, “Haudinei” topped the charts for four weeks on Power FM Zimbabwe.

Following her successful debut album, Clare Nyakujara launched her second album, “Unleashed,” in 2011, with the support of the Spanish Embassy of Zimbabwe.

The album gained significant popularity and received extensive airplay on prominent Zimbabwean radio stations, including Spot FM, Radio Zimbabwe, and Power FM Zimbabwe.

In 2017, she collaborated with the Ruzivo group to release a joint album titled “Ndega Zvangu”.

Aside from her studio work, Clare is known for her performances at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. There, she captivates audiences with her mesmerizing skills on the African harp, the KORA.

Her exceptional talent was recognized with consecutive wins in the Best Jazz Artist category at the Zimbabwe Music Awards in 2015 and 2016.

In 2022, Clare Nyakujara showcased her diverse talents beyond music by authoring a book titled “Pimp your music business.” This book likely provided valuable insights and tips for musicians to enhance their business strategies and overall success.

Furthermore, she expanded her reach by creating an academic course on the popular online learning platform Udemy.

The course, titled “Create A Brand That Sells,” was tailored to help fellow musicians develop effective branding strategies to promote and sell their music effectively.
