This is the biography of Doreen Joyce Sibanda, a British-born Zimbabwean artist, curator, and arts administrator.

Husband

Doreen Sibanda is married to Misheck Sibanda, who previously held the position of Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet.

Misheck Sibanda is an educator with credentials from various institutions:

  • Certificate of Education: Art and Design from the University of Birmingham, School of Education
  • Bachelor of Education Degree (With Merit) from the University of Zimbabwe in 1979

Career

Misheck Sibanda’s career highlights include:

  • Serving as the Executive Director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe from 2004 until January 30, 2020.
  • Joining the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in 1981, where she established the Education and Public Programmes Department and served as the Education Officer until 1988.
  • Curating exhibitions at the Pavilion of Zimbabwe at the Venice Biennale and multiple exhibitions within the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.
  • Founding and directing Mutupo, a private gallery, from 1996 to 2001.
  • Acting as a Lecturer at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe’s BAT Studios, Harare Polytechnic, and the University of Zimbabwe.
  • Serving as an Art Consultant to various organizations, including the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and HiVOS.
  • Holding positions on several Professional Boards, including ZAVACAD, Crafts Council of Zimbabwe, Women Filmmakers of Zimbabwe/International Images Film Festival, National Handicraft Centre, National Merchant of Zimbabwe, ZARNET, Great Zimbabwe University Council, Women’s University in Africa, Zimpapers, and POTRAZ.

On January 26, 2024, Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Ltd (Zimpapers) announced a new board chaired by Doreen Sibanda, who had previously served on the Zimpapers board from 2014 to 2019. She has also served on other boards including the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, NMB Bank, Great Zimbabwe University, National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Women University in Africa, and Postal Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz), where she also held the position of chair.
