This is the biography of Hardlife Daniel Zvirekwi, a retired Zimbabwean professional footballer who played as a defender for CAPS United and the Zimbabwe national team.
Early Life & Education
Hardlife Zvirekwi was born on 5 May 1887 in Chivhu, Zimbabwe. His passion for football would eventually lead him to a successful career on the pitch.

Club
Zvirekwi began his professional football journey with Gunners. In 2009, he played a pivotal role as Gunners clinched the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League title, finishing five points ahead of Dynamos. His consistent performances caught the attention of scouts, and in 2013, he made the move to CAPS United.
At CAPS United, Zvirekwi continued to excel as a defender. His commitment, work rate, and leadership qualities earned him the captain’s armband. In January 2016, he signed a new three-year deal with CAPS United, solidifying his place in the team.
International

Zvirekwi made his international debut for Zimbabwe on 9 June 2013 during a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Egypt. Although Zimbabwe suffered a 2–4 defeat, Zvirekwi’s performance showcased his defensive abilities. He went on to earn additional caps against Mozambique and South Africa later that year.
In 2014, Zvirekwi was part of the Zimbabwe squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN). Despite a fourth-place finish, the team’s journey was commendable. Zvirekwi’s dedication and resilience were evident as he contributed to their campaign.
Two years later, he returned to represent Zimbabwe in the 2016 African Nations Championship, featuring in all three of Zimbabwe’s fixtures.

Hardlife Zvirekwi Accident
In March 2018, tragedy struck when Zvirekwi was involved in a car crash in Harare. As a result of the accident, surgeons had to amputate his left hand. Despite this life-altering setback, Zvirekwi displayed remarkable resilience. He continued playing professional football even with a severed arm.

Zvirekwi was married to Sarudzai Zvirekwi (nee Maromo). They shared a son named David Zvirekwi.
Tragically, Sarudzai passed away in August 2024, but the circumstances surrounding her death have not been publicly disclosed. The football community expressed condolences and support for Hardlife during this difficult time
