This is the biography of Kazembe Kazembe, a Zimbabwean politician who is the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage as of August 2024. He has held various ministerial positions in the Zimbabwean government.
Early Life and Education
Kazembe Raymond Kazembe was born on 23 June 1969 in Dandamera township, Concession, Zimbabwe. His upbringing was poor, and they stayed in a shack. His mother died when he was young, and his father, who repaired watches in the local township, raised him.
His birth name was Ray. Growing up, he got severely ill, so much so that his father gave him up at one traditional healer’s place for two months. He recovered, and his father changed his name to Kazembe as a tribute to his grandfather.
Kazembe attended Dandamera Primary School, where he was always the best student and later Kundayi Secondary School.
He holds an MBA from Africa University and a B. Tech Degree in Marketing from Technikon SA. He also studied Electrical Power Engineering at the Harare Institute of Technology. He also studied Data Communication and Networking at the University of Zimbabwe and has a B.Tech Level 5 in CCTV surveillance from the TAVCOM Training College in the UK.
Kazembe Kazembe Professional Career
Kazembe began his career as a Science and Mathematics teacher at Rujeko Secondary School. He later worked as an Electrical Engineering Technician at Glendale Spinners. He held various positions at Safeguard Alarms, including Technical Director and Sales & Marketing Director.
Kazembe Kazembe was also a football administrator from 1990s. He was once the secretary-general of Dynamos Football Club, but he quit in 2012 to get into politics. The administrator also held positions as ZIFA Mashonaland Central treasurer and chairman of Glendale Spinners Football Club before joining the Dynamos.
Kazembe Kazembe Political Career
Kazembe entered politics in 2013. He was elected to the National Assembly as a Zanu-PF member for Mazowe West Constituency and re-elected in 2018.
From 2017, Kazembe served as the Minister of Sport, Arts and Recreation. President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed him just after the Operation Restore Legacy that toppled the late former President Robert Mugabe.
In 2018, President Mnangagwa reshuffled Kazembe Kazembe from Sports to the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and Cyber Security, replacing Supa Mandiwanzira.
Kazembe was reassigned to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage on 14 November 2019. President Mnangagwa reappointed him in September 2023 after the elections.
Kazembe Kazembe Personal Life
Details about Kazembe’s private life are scarce. However, in 2022, he lost his daughter, Charlene Kazembe. The Minister also has two sons, Tendai and rapper Raymond Jnr, who is a qualified IT administrator and manager.
Kazembe enjoys watching and playing golf, soccer and rugby, watching movies, listening to music and travelling. He is a staunch Dynamos and Arsenal fan.
