Lamont Chitepo is a Zimbabwean Afropop musician based in the United Kingdom. He gained recognition for his breakout record “Maiwe” featuring Kin.
Lamont Chitepo was born in Harare in 1982. He comes from a notable family, as the late war veteran Herbert Chitepo was his grandfather’s brother.
Lamont Chitepo attended Sadziwa Primary School and Mukai High School. He later pursued higher education at Birmingham City University, where he graduated with a BSc Hons in Social Sciences.
Lamont Chitepo’s musical journey began in the late 90s when he was discovered by Delani Makhalima. Initially known by the moniker “Tu Short,” he embarked on his music career in 1998 as part of the hip-hop group called Definition of Perfection. However, he later underwent a spiritual transformation and transitioned to gospel music. In 2012, he started recording gospel songs, including “Walk With You,” which featured on his second 10-track album titled “Invisible.”
In 2010, Lamont released his debut seven-track album titled “Ndiwe” in the United Kingdom. The album received positive reception, with songs like “Terera” and “Ndiwe” gaining popularity. His talent and success led to a nomination at the Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television, Arts, and Sports Awards, which celebrate black and ethnic personalities in showbiz.
Having moved to the UK in 2003, Lamont Chitepo honed his songwriting and music production skills. He established his own record label called Mambo Music, allowing him to have creative control over his music.
