Approximately 140 kilometers (87 miles) southwest of Mutare, the provincial headquarters, Murambinda is a key town with strategic regional importance. The district headquarters, Buhera village, is positioned about 30 kilometers (19 miles) further southwest, while the town of Chivhu, with a population of 10,370, is around 104 kilometers (65 miles) northwest of Murambinda. The precise coordinates of Murambinda are 19° 16′ 12.00″S latitude and 31° 39′ 0.00″ E longitude, placing it at an altitude of 3,264 feet (995 m) above sea level.
Overview
Murambinda stands as one of the two designated urban areas in Buhera District, alongside Birchenough Bridge. The town hosts Murambinda School and Murambinda Mission Hospital (MMH), managed by the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Harare. Founded in 1968, MMH also serves as the District Hospital for nearly 300,000 district inhabitants. Adjacent to the hospital is a nurses training school affiliated with MMH.
History of Murambinda
Referred to at times as Murambinda Growth Point, the town is part of the government’s initiative to establish urban centers in predominantly rural settings known as “Growth Points.” These centers aim to develop urban residential areas, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and light industry.

While the current population of Murambinda is not publicly known, the town had an estimated population of 3,383 in 2004. The next national census in Zimbabwe is scheduled from August 18, 2012, through August 28, 2012, providing an updated demographic snapshot of the town.
