This is the biography of Nokuthula Matsikenyere, a Zimbabwean politician and member of ZANU-PF party.

Nokuthula Matsikenyere was born on June 7, 1964.

Education

Matsikenyere completed her primary education at Makuva Primary School and her secondary education at Masume Secondary School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Educational Development and a Diploma in Education, both from the University of Zimbabwe.

Political Career

Matsikenyere entered politics in 2000 when she was elected to the Zimbabwean Parliament as a representative of the ZANU-PF party for the Bulawayo South constituency. In 2005, she was appointed Minister of Women’s Affairs, Gender, and Community Development, serving until 2010.

After being re-elected to Parliament in 2013, she chaired the Portfolio Committee on Women’s Affairs, Gender, and Community Development. In 2015, she became the ZANU-PF Women’s League chairperson for Manicaland Province, following the removal of her predecessor.

In the 2018 Harmonised Elections, Matsikenyere won her seat with 10,757 votes, defeating MDC Alliance’s Canaan Matiashe, who received 9,199 votes. She had first secured the seat during a by-election in November 2016. On February 8, 2021, she was appointed Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in charge of Manicaland Province, succeeding Dr. Ellen Gwaradzimba.

In Parliament, Matsikenyere served on the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Sports, and Culture, as well as the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

In September 2023, President Emmerson Mnangagwa withdrew Matsikenyere’s appointment as Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Manicaland Province after exceeding the allowed number of non-constituency ministers.
