This is the biography of Rutendo Nyahora, a Zimbabwean athlete and a long-distance/marathon runner. As of July 2024, she was set to make her second Olympic appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Early Life
Rutendo Joan Nyahora was born on November 11, 1988, in Harare, Zimbabwe, in a poor upbringing. She saw long distance running as her only hope to shake off that poverty. Nyahora developed her passion for running during her primary school years at Budiriro 2 Primary School. After completing Ordinary Levels at Glen View 2 High School, she moved to South Africa in 2006 to join a club and pursue a career on the road race circuit. Her dedication and determination fueled her progress, even in the face of parental opposition.
She said:
“My mom was very protective. She didn’t know anything about sport. When I started running, it was not easy for me. In fact, neither of my parents liked it at first. Every time I went for training I had to lie that I was going for extra lessons. I had to train very hard in that little time I got.”
Despite her parents’ reservations, Nyahora continued to run, proving her love for the sport. Through her career as an athlete, she managed to buy her parents a house.
