United Republic of Delvin (URD) Country Profile

The United Republic of Delvin (URD) is a micronation situated in the Central Pacific Ocean, previously identified as Howland Island in the early 1800s. The establishment of this sovereign entity was orchestrated by Zimbabwean academic  H.R.M. Prof. Dr. Webiston Jokonya. URD covers an area of 160 hectares and stands as a testament to the unique and intricate nature of micronations.  This country profile provides a concise overview of the micronation of the United Republic of Delvin (URD).

Founding and Declaration

In a historic declaration on September 5, 2023, Professor Webiston Jokonya announced the birth of the United Republic of Delvin, marking its emergence as a sovereign state. Formerly Howland Island, this uninhabited and unclaimed territory was transformed into a nation under the governance of Professor Jokonya, who assumed the role of its first Prime Minister.

Geography and Infrastructure

Positioned in the heart of the Central Pacific Ocean, URD lies approximately 1,700 nautical miles southwest of Honolulu. Encompassing a land area of 160 hectares, the nation’s capital, Nashville City (NC), along with two smaller towns, Howland Town and Webston Town, form the focal points of habitation. The region boasts two significant seaports, Port Howland to the South and Port Denzel to the North, complemented by the Nashville International Airport (NIA).

Governance and Leadership

Professor Webiston Jokonya, the driving force behind URD’s inception, serves as its founder and Prime Minister. Notable figures in the nation’s leadership include Prof. Dr. Rejaul Abedin PhD DBA FCMAN FGEPEA, the Minister of Education, and Prof Dr. Charles C.O., the Attorney General.

Resource and Economic Landscape

URD’s geographical features entail an equatorial climate marked by limited rainfall, persistent winds, and intense sunshine. The nation’s resources include guano, primarily derived from the excrement of wild bats and birds, which historically served as a valuable fertilizer. However, the absence of fresh water resources necessitates innovation in water sourcing and conservation.

Vision and Development

Professor Jokonya’s vision for URD encompasses fostering diplomatic relations, welcoming investors, and embarking on infrastructural development. With aspirations to build a progressive nation, URD seeks collaborations and investment opportunities to facilitate economic growth and sustainability.

Citizenship and Future Prospects

Despite its recent establishment, URD has garnered 36 registered citizens predominantly hailing from Asia and Europe. As a micro-nation, its growth prospects hinge on strategic partnerships, economic initiatives, and visionary leadership.
