Fadzayi Mahere is a well-known lawyer and politician from Zimbabwe. She is currently the National Spokesperson for the Citizens Coalition for Change, which is a political party in Zimbabwe. Fadzayi began her career in legal advocacy and later became an independent parliamentary candidate around April 2016. She then joined the Movement for Democratic Change. She has been arrested several times as a result of being part of the mass movement of activists rising against the government.

Mahere was born on 30 July 1985 into a family of six in the suburbs of Harare. She grew up in a happy and hopeful post-independence Zimbabwe. Her parents were a nurse and a teacher, and their middle-class lifestyle allowed Mahere to attend good schools and live in safe neighbourhoods. As the second of four siblings and the eldest daughter, Mahere noticed early on how many more household tasks fell to her than to her brothers. She began to develop her strong belief in human rights and the rule of law from a young age and knew she wanted to be a lawyer from the age of 14.
Mahere attended one of Harare’s best private schools with her close friend, Nombi Domboka. Domboka remembers Mahere as a “joker” who was “always laughing” in their early high school years. However, Mahere became very serious before her O-Level exams, which she took at 16. She excelled academically and had a talent for public speaking. After studying and working abroad, Mahere returned home in 2011 to establish her own legal practice.
Fadzayi Mahere’s Education and Career
In 2004, Mahere enrolled at the University of Zimbabwe, where she earned a Bachelor of Law Honours degree (LLB Hons) in 2008. She then went on to earn a Master of Laws degree in International Criminal Law & International Commercial Litigation from the University of Cambridge in 2011.
In 2016, Mahere participated in a public inquiry on the printing and introduction of additional bond notes in Zimbabwe. She argued that the bond notes were unconstitutional according to Chapter 17 of the Constitution on public finance. That same year, she became involved in the #thisflagmovement, using social media to mobilize people against the government.

In 2017, Mahere announced her candidacy as an independent candidate for the Harare suburb of Mount Pleasant in the 2018 elections. She was arrested in the same year for organizing a soccer tournament in her constituency and charged under the Public Order and Security Act (POSA).
In June 2019, Mahere joined the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party as the Secretary for Education. In May 2020, she was appointed as the National Spokesperson for the MDC Alliance coalition. She continued to work towards exposing corruption and holding authorities in Zimbabwe accountable.
Her Arrest
In January 2021, Fadzayi Mahere was arrested over a Tweet. The charges were that she spread false information after a Junior police officer who was enforcing the law was falsely linked to the death of an infant. The advocate was arrested alongside journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and MP Job Sikhala over the same issue.

When the MDC Alliance Coalition party divided among themselves, Fadzayi Mahere joined the Citizens Coalition for Change that is led by Nelson Chamisa. Mahere is the National Spokesperson for the party.
Fadzayi Mahere’s Love life
The advocate does not share her love life with the public, but that has not stopped people from wondering. Previously, she has been linked with a married man named Tinashe Murapata. Fadzayi, however, told the publication to retract their article or she would sue. The public does not know who the lawyer is dating.
