Gemma Griffiths is a Zimbabwean musician who is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
In addition to her music career, Gemma is also involved in various other artistic pursuits, such as ballroom and ballet dancing, painting, and playing the piano.
She gained recognition in the Zimbabwean music scene when she did a moving rendition of Winky D’s hit song “Musarova Bigman” in 2016, incorporating both Shona and English elements.
In 2019, Griffiths was featured on Winky D’s highly successful track “MuGarden”.
Age
Not much about the songstress’ personal life can be found on the internet as she has managed to keep it under wraps which focusing on her musical career. However, 2 years ago, a local publication reported that she had celebrated her 27th birthday. In light of this, in 2023 Gemma will be 29 years old.
Education
Gemma did her high school at Chisipite Senior School. Following that, Gemma pursued further studies in the United States, where she earned a degree in commercial music composition.
Musical Career
Gemma’s passion for music runs deep in her family lineage, as she is not the sole musician among her kin. During one of her interviews with radio presenter KVG, she shared that her mother and grandmother possess strong singing skills, while her grandfather and uncle both have a knack for playing musical instruments.
With a family tree rooted in music, Gemma has a solid foundation for her musical career.
So far, Gemma has performed alongside notable South African artists such as Jimmy Nevis, Majozi, Goodluck, Freshly Ground, and Matthew Mole.
Despite being based in Cape Town, Gemma has also maintained close ties with Zimbabwean musicians.
She has shared the stage with Jah Prayzah, one of Zimbabwe’s top artists, at the Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts. Gemma also shared the stage with the late Zimbabwean legend Oliver Mtukudzi at Artscape Theater.
Gemma regularly returns to Zimbabwe to showcase her music at festivals such as HIFA, Miombo Magic, and Shoko Festival.
In 2018, Gemma debuted her first EP (extended play), which comprised four tracks, including “My Town” and “Musarova Bigman”.
She introduced the EP to audiences in Harare, Cape Town, and London, all of whom welcomed her music with open arms, enabling her to gain a significant following across these regions.
Boyfriend
Gemma Griffiths has been quite cautious about revealing the identity of her boyfriend. Although she has been romantically linked with some renowned musicians from Zimbabwe such as Jah Prayzah, she has not officially confirmed any of these speculations.
Some years ago, Gemma collaborated with Winky D on the chart-topping hit “MuGarden,” which fueled rumours of a romantic relationship between them.
If Gemma is currently involved with someone, she seems to be keeping it under wraps.
